And that new shiny thing is the soapy slasher show Harper's Island on CBS. I know, after Jericho I swore not to come off of cable except for Lost & 24 but, well, I backslid okay? Happens apparently when the ad campaign catches my eye.
It's scandalously full of people I've never seen before, except for the groom Henry (Christopher Gorham). Apparently I haven't kept up with his career because all I came up with was "Oh that's the guy that was Elena's not so brilliant boyfriend from Felicity & oh yeah, wasn't he in Popular? I used to love that show!" Well, wherever else he's been, he's still too adorable to stand, so I can totally watch him. The bride (Katie Cassidy) is too cute too. She's all bright smiles & cuddles for the fiance with a dash of panic over the unexpected arrival of the ex-boyfriend that makes you wonder just a bit. Yikes!
They're the lynchpin in the show and I will admit to shipping them seriously. As we all know, the only ship I've ever had work out was Felicity/Ben so all indications are, Henry/Trish won't come off at all & one will wind up dead or be the psycho killer. I can't help it but I'm still pulling for them still alive at the ending fade to black all scarred, bloody & possibly singed but with Trish still sporting that rock on her hand and Henry holding her close as they cruise into a Seattle dock on a police or Coast Guard boat. All they really need is a justice of the peace (or ship's captain) & what? Two witnesses. Keep Abbey & Jimmy alive (hell, I'll even throw in creepy psi-kid Madison if that's what it takes to close the deal) & we've got ourselves a wedding people!
Yeah, I said I ship them seriously. Right?
I like Abbey (the groom's BFF) well enough & don't want her with any additional trauma but I think hoping for a happy ending with her ex-boyfriend Jimmy is asking for too much. See, really there's only room enough on this ship for one couple. Sorry guys. The couple banter is very cool but it's just not enough to edge out the whole Henry/Trish thing. I think it's the whole "getting married this week" thing that's beating out the "we used to go out 7 years ago & haven't gotten over each other" thing. Let's just call it the Jake/Emily syndrome & I've got a serious & well known allergy to that.
Oh yeah, I just remembered I recognized Harry Hamlin as Henry's fun loving & possibly criminal Uncle Marty! Dude, he rocked! And Trish's father is the couch-fucking doc on Nip/Tuck but I don't think he'll be doing anything like that in this show. Besides, we've already got the S&M covered, I think. Anyway, I'm all over this show & will be obsessing about it for the whole of the rest of the eps. Thank goodness the whole story is told in 13 eps/weeks.
My little shipper heart awaits episode 4 tomorrow. ;)
